How To Turn Water Into Wine.
Hello everyone. How are you doing today? I want to share with you this message the Lord dropped in my heart: how to turn water into wine.
The very first miracle that Jesus performed was at a wedding ceremony in Cana of Galilee. Being the very first miracle he performed, it will give us an insight into how Jesus operates, how he performs miracles and how we can align ourselves with his will to experience those same miracles in our lives.
There was an invitation.
Jesus was invited to the wedding. John 2:2, Now Jesus and his disciples were invited to the wedding.
It all begins with an invitation. An invitation is a powerful thing. An invitation gives you access to a place, to a person or to an event. In this instance Jesus was given an invitation to attend a wedding. An invitation is one of the protocols that heaven observes before it steps into the affairs of men. God does not show up in our lives unless and until he is given an invitation. The Psalmist said in Psalm 115:15, The highest heavens belong to the Lord, but the earth He has given to mankind. The earth belongs to men. For God to be an integral part of our lives, we have to be intentional about giving him an invitation.
An invitation says ‘you are special, you mean a lot to us, we place a lot of value on you, come and celebrate with us.’ An invitation tells you that the doors are open to you, the security will let you through, that you have access to whatever is going on at the venue of that invitation. Jesus had an invitation.
For us to experience the power of God in our lives, for us to experience the supernatural, we have to invite Jesus Christ into our lives, we have to invite him into our situation, into our circumstance. For him to impact our lives, we have to give him a formal invitation to come in. The Lord will not impose himself on us, He will not force his way into our lives if he is unwanted, uninvited. We have to ask him to come and willingly open the door of our lives to him to have his way. In Revelations 3:20, “Behold, I stand at the door of your heart and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into him and dine with him and he with me.” Giving the Lord an invitation, opening the door to the Lord means that we give him full, total and complete access to our lives to do as he pleases, to effect His will in our lives.
The wine ran out at the wedding.
The party was going on. The bride and bridegroom were celebrating their marriage with friends, family and neighbours. Everyone was dancing to the music playing in the hall. There was food prepared bu a Jewish chef and served by waiters who made sure that everyone present had something to eat. There were goblets of wine on the tables; guests drank freely and requested for their goblets to be refilled.
Then the wine ran out. And when it did, the party came to an abrupt stop.
What you don’t want to ever experience at a party is for food and drinks to run out when the party is just getting started. This was going to be an embarrassment to the married couple. Everyone started asking for more wine, but there was none to serve the thirsty guests.
Wine symbolizes joy, happiness. For wine to run out of your life depicts a really terrible thing. Wine also symbolizes the Holy Spirit. The bible says in Ephesians 5:18 says: ‘Do not be drunk on wine which leads to reckless indiscretion. Instead be filled with the Spirit.’ When the disciples were first filled with the Holy Spirit in Acts 2, the multitudes who heard them speak in different languages mocked them and said they were filled with new wine. They probably acted like men and women who were under the influence of alcohol.
The bible says in Psalm 104:15, ‘Wine that gladdens the heart of man, oil that makes his face to shine and bread that sustains his heart.’ To run out of wine is to be without joy, to be depressed, to be frustrated, to be discouraged. To run out of wine is to lose all hope and see nothing worth living for. To run out of wine is to lose the very essence of who you are and what gives your life meaning. Without the wine of the Holy Spirit our lives will be worse than a barren desert, it will be a joyless wilderness, an emptiness possessed by sadness. It is the Holy Spirit that infuses our hearts with hope, that fills us with joy, that gives our lives meaning, a sense of purpose and direction.
In the midst of the panic, the host realized that he had invited Jesus. He saw Jesus and his disciples sitting together at a table and chatting as if everything was okay at the wedding. The host quickly sprang into action and spoke to Mary, the mother of Jesus. Mary came to Jesus and asked him to intervene in the situation. “The wine has ran out,” she said, “And you are the only one who can do something about it.” Jesus told his mother that he was not ready to take action. She should wait. Knowing her son, Mary told the servants something very critical to experiencing the supernatural intervention of God in our lives. John 2:5, His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”
This is the secret to experiencing the supernatural in our lives. This is the secret of turning water into wine. This is the secret of coming out of spiritual lack into spiritual abundance. This is the secret to manifesting our true calling, ministry, assignment and destiny. This is the secret that made the apostles vessels of power, who turned the world upside down and effected the will of God on the earth.
Whatever he says to you, do it.
We must understand that our journey with the Lord is personal, intimate. It is a relationship between you and the Lord. Although we have relationships with other people, but our journey with the Lord is personal. There are things that the Lord wants to tell you, to share with you, to reveal to you, to show you. The Lord yearns to come close to you and pour out his heart to you. He wants to speak to you on specific issues. He wants to show you what to do in your peculiar situation. The Lord wants to show you how to run your business, how to make your marriage work, what step to take towards pursuing your career. The Lord wants to show you how to be successful in your calling, in your business, in your ministry, in your relationships, in your career.
Whatever he says to you, do it.
The Lord wants to tell you what to do to activate a financial miracle in your life. He wants to tell you how to resuscitate and breathe life back in to your dying business. He wants to tell you where your treasures lie and how to get them. He wants to tell you how to pursue and complete your kingdom assignment. Whatever he tells you, do it. The Lord wants to give you the wisdom you require to function in dominion on the earth. This is the secret to all miracles, the secret to the release of power, the secret to the move of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
When the Lord speaks we have to learn to listen, and not only listen but also obey his instructions. I am not talking about the instructions of your pastor or prophet. I am talking about an instruction that the Lord gives you personally, a word that he whispers to your soul, a rhema he drops in your spirit, a revelation he gives you by opening your spiritual eyes. Many people are quick to obey the words of their pastors and prophets but they are very slow to obey what the Lord tells them to do in their own hearts. But the greatest act of worship is to do what the Lord tells you to do within the boundaries of the written word, the bible.
The servants hung around, waiting patiently for Jesus to tell them what to do. Before we rush into action, before we make a decision, before we invest in that business or project, before we pack our bags and relocate to a new country, we should wait patiently to hear what the Lord tells us about it.
Jesus told the servants to fill six empty water pots with water. John 2:7, Jesus said to them, “Fill the water pots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. These servants were obedient to the Lord. They carried out his instructions exactly as he told them. They filled empty water pots with water to the brim, then waited for him to give them further instructions.
Our duty is to obey the instructions of the Lord. The Lord’s duty is to perform the miracle. If we want to turn water into wine we must learn to pay attention to the instructions of the Lord and carry them out to the letter. We should not second guess the Lord as if we have the power to work a supernatural miracle. We don’t. It is the Lord who has the power to turn water into wine, our part is to fill the water pots with water. The Lord then told them to draw out some of the water they had poured into the water pots. They did and discovered that the water had turned into wine. Everyone at the wedding drank the wine and said how different it was. In fact the master of the feast said the hosts had kept the best wine for last.
There are two parts to a miracle: the natural and the supernatural. The natural part is for us to do what we have been instructed to do by the word of God and by the Holy Spirit. For instance in the book of Proverbs, financial success is the result of hard work and applying wisdom. If we want to experience success in our endeavours, we should first obey what the bible says and that is to work. You cannot be idle and expect a financial miracle to happen in your life. You cannot hide your talent under a bushel and expect it to produce financial miracles for you. We must do the natural and trust that the Lord will do the supernatural to confirm His word in our lives. Obedience is the key to unlocking the supernatural in our lives. Obedience is the key to manifesting the power of God in our situation.
Do you want to turn water into wine? Do you want to experience the supernatural power of God in your life? Then invite the Lord Jesus into your life, ask him what to do about your situation, listen to what he says and whatever He tells you to do, do it.
